Yalla's Prune and Vanilla Yogurt!

I don't usually like to eat yogurt, but i found this little treasure at the Eveleigh's Markets @ Redfern.

This is so good and creamy and delicious!

The prunes add an unexpected flavour which is not at all common and the prunes are a generous amount, not a puny sized topping.

I really love their dips as well as their yogurts and i will be so upset when i return to Singapore and not get to eat this anymore. Sad smile

So i'll just be getting myself some and eating away while i'm still here. 14 days to go.

I hope they will be considering expanding their business overseas though.

I just finished a small tub of this and i still have a big tub of vanilla yogurt to enjoy.

But just letting you guys know that this is an amazing product and grab it when you see it, cause it's awesome.

YUM YUM.

Entertainment Quarter Famer’s Market

Second time there. the first was a while back if you check the post.

So we’re here to top up some supplies.

P1030064
Portuguese chilli. Very delicious. They have varying heat. We chose the Hot one. This goes really nicely on burgers or just grilled chicken. We bought the larger bottle previously but it took us quite some time to finish it, so we decided that just a small bottle this time.

P1030060
Parmesan cheese. we all love it freshly grated. yes. but i’m lazy sometimes. and the grated parmesan that the supermarket sells is hmm.

so when i saw this at a cheese stand, i grabbed it. $4 is a little pricey, but it’s grated and it’s good quality. So it’s worth it i guess. :)

P1030062
I also bought a small wedge of Fontina, a nice melting cheese. This one i got is sharper in taste and very creamy. We had it over mashed potatoes.

It is also great just shaved over crackers, with black pepper. Great like that, or just pop it into the oven for a minute and the cheese melts nicely.

P1030065
I LOVE butter. in case you didn’t already know. so i’ve been reading up a little on butter. and found that cultured butter, like the one above are made from sour cream instead of cream. therefore, the butter has a slightly sour taste. This is expensive butter. I found it at a cheese store. i think it would go great with sourdough bread. which unfortunately i don’t really like. not really keen on sour. but i will try again.

P1030077
Shi Hui bought a small tin of chai tea. Instead of the usual powder ones, this one has real tea leaves and real spices in there. cardamom seeds and all. i don’t like chai, i can’t stand the smell of the spices. but i love curry. so i guess it’s just chai.

P1030071
2 chocolate croissants.

P1030075
2 brioche.

I’m ashamed to say that we forgot to eat them. so they’re hard and dry now, from being in the fridge. but i’m going to save them but making bread and butter pudding with all these pastries. :)

P1030058
and of course. we are hungry. so we bought 2 gozleme. One vegetarian, one with minced meat.

Delicious with lemon squeezed over it. Fresh and piping hot. Only me and hui went so we nearly couldn’t finish it all. Hui left one slice of her minced meat and i managed to finish all of my vegetarian. :) yum yum. feel like eating that now.

Well.. that’s about all our adventures from the EQ farmer’s market.

Till next time!

Eveleigh Farmers' Market

When my parents came, it was the first saturday of the month, so we could choose to go to the Eveleigh Markets at Redfern or the Pyrmont Growers’ Market. It had been raining every single day that week and so i decided to go to Eveleigh Market since it is sheltered.

We drove to Locomotive Street at the Australian Technology Park. and parked there. They offer a free shuttle bus service to the Market from there. and so we found the bus stop – not too difficult.

P1010015
P1010010
The bus came relatively quickly. That morning, there was only one other lady at the bus stop.

and we’ve reached.

P1010024
P1010030
P1010033

We bought some stuffs – ate a light lunch there, drank hot chocolate.

These are some of the stuffs we bought:

P1010283
Zucchini and Almond Flats – these taste really good and don’t really any sauce to go with them since they are flavourful enough.

P1010278
P1010279
These dips are incredible. I love love love them. Both have olives in them. The Kalamata olive dip is purplish in colour and has a good amount of chunks of roughly chopped olives in it. It also has a very strong flavour. The green olives with artichokes is much milder but very delicious as well. I first tried this at the stall and they are really generous with the sample portions. I fell in love and bought the green olives. then i went back and saw this purple thing on top of a piece of bread, tried it and loved it. My dad loved it too so i bought 2 tubs, one for me and one for him to bring back to Singapore.

These dips have cream cheese as a base, so they are tangy and savoury.

I can’t decide which one i like better. I like both. They go really great with bread or just plain biscuits. I could just keep eating these all day long.

They don’t have an ultra long shelf life though. I was there early June and i don’t remember which one had an expiry date of 22nd June and 5th July. So you have to consume it diligently.

They’re not too expensive – i think it was $3.50 per tub. I saw it at a grocer at Randwick for $4.20 a tub and their expiry dates were nearer.

We also bought chorizos and bacon which fish loves. I have blogged about their Chorizos before. One of the best.

and we bought Black Angus Sirloin Steak – still in the freezer – not quite sure what to do with them yet.

I quite like it here. there are loads of dogs – and surprisingly, i wasn’t afraid that day – i think i was too busy looking at the stalls.

Instead of driving, you could sit a train to Redfern and walk there – and the shuttle bus does go by there to pick passengers – i think that’s a great idea.

I’ll be going to another farmers’ market soon, but i think most likely it would be the one at EQ – the first one i’ve ever been to.

Pyrmont Growers’ Market

Loads of pictures on this post!

I had a tiring but great time yesterday. Woke up at 6am but left only at 830am because my dearest sister did not keep track of time.

From our house, it is really easy to get to the Pyrmont Growers’ Market. Just take a bus to Central Station and from there, take the light rail to Pyrmont Bay Station. We were originally intending to go to Star City’s station – which is what i read about. but i stopped at the wrong stop – 1 stop before (Pyrmont Bay) and surprisingly, we found ourselves at the right place!

002

Just get off the train at Pyrmont Bay, cross the tracks, and exit – it’s right in front. and there the stalls are!

007
It was bright and sunny. There were loads of people. Loads of dogs. Loads of kids.

There were many stalls.

004
The first things to greet us was this bbq stall which sells sausages etc. Yum Yum!

005006
GARLIC!

They sell garlic by the braids and loosely. The braids can last for 6 weeks. but i don’t think i will be able to finish that much garlic – as much as i love them. So, i bought 2 heads of garlic.

041
The one on the left is slightly purplish and that is the one that was described as ‘more tasty’ and the one on the right is more pungent. I don’t know which one i would like more obviously – so i bought 1 of each. $2 for one.

011010
There’s also a stall that sells nothing but potatoes. for $5 a bag. they have all sorts of potatoes that you won’t be able to find in supermarkets. I bought a bag of kipfler potatoes. They are waxy potatoes, finger-like looking with a creamy coloured flesh. They are great for salads and roasting. i bought them in mind for roasting but i would think i could take some to make a simple japanese potato salad.

There’s also a potato called ‘Dutch Cream’ and it seems like many people bought this variety of potato – so i’m definitely going to try it the next time i get to go there.

012
There are also a few stalls selling veggies. These veggies are restricted by ‘food miles’ which means there is a certain limit as to how far these veggies can be transported.

I bought a head of cabbage and a bag of beans for $5.

There were many different stalls, selling meat, sausages, lamb, pork, sweets etc..

013
Is that a real lamb? hehe… nope… just a statue of a lamb.

015014
This cool stall sells small good such as chorizos, fresh sausages, bacon, smoked chicken and cooked food.

038

The above picture is of the chicken and leek sausages and the pack of streaky bacon.

040
And the chorizo sausages and the whole smoked chicken which smells amazing!

024 025
Since it’s the Easter weekend. there was a stall selling easter eggs etc.

026
There’s also this stall that sells fresh mushrooms that were cultivated by them. There were some cool mushrooms.

067
We got 2 pink oyster mushrooms and 2 king oyster mushrooms.

068
This is really cool. These are actually fresh shitake mushrooms. Very much unlike the ones you would normally find in the supermarket. They are really soft and delicate. I can’t wait to just simply fry this in butter or extra virgin olive oil (which i bought) and maybe a pinch of garlic, salt and pepper.

032
They had tastings of bread with herbs and this extra virgin olive oil. This is Made in Australia. and the flavour is beautiful. it’s fresh and fruity. and delicious.

036 037
Fresh Eggs too! A good dozen of 700gm Free Range Eggs. for $6

034
I had to try this – i saw this in another blogger’s blog. There were tasters and i don’t really like marshmallows, but i had to try these. They are different from normal marshmallows. This is a mini bag for $8. They are other packaging as well.

072
If you can see the ingredient list, there is real fruit puree in the marshmallows and this gives the marshmallows a real fruity flavour. Not just sweet but also tart – accordingly to the fruit flavour.

Delicious – in fact, i’m eating some now!

033
From a stall operated by 2 japanese females, we bought their sesame sauce – it was rich and flavourful. Fish also liked their noodle salad dressing. The sesame sauce was a small bottle that costs $8.50 while the noodle salad dressing is only in 1 size for $12.

We also bought a 1/4 Miche Sourdough bread from Sonoma. It is a huge quarter out of an even larger round bread. The 1/4 costs $4.50.

That’s about all the things we bought.

Here….. more pictures of that beautiful morning!

008009017 016 018019 021 022
We had dim sum after shopping @ the farmer's market. then walked around. watched ‘Clash of the Titans 3D’ – not too bad.

Had dinner with 2 of hui’s friend @ Seoul Ria. That will be my next post.

I love going to Farmer’s Markets and i can’t wait till the next one.

Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures!

OH! i have to say i am quite impressed with my Panasonic Lumix FZ35. All these pictures were taken with it and many were taken with zoom. I couldn’t see the screen properly since the sun was too bright. and i’m impressed and amazed that the zoom did not make the pictures blur but they were all beautiful! =)
